They will fix this when GW2 comes out with UAX pvp. Until then I suggest you lay back, get a job, have some kids and come back when your financial situation isnt so troubling.
I think that you would be best playing PvE for now until you can afford Nightfall.. but I think that you could still probably do fine in PvP is you really know how to counter certain builds. You can't really determine PvP with RA, but most of the other organized teams will not accept you if you don't have certain skills.
If you still want to do RA, you'll still do fine if you run a reasonable build.. because alot of people there don't run reasonable builds at all. (I saw a Warrior with both Air Magic and Fire Magic spells yesterday..)
On the Assassin stuff... wouldn't you need Factions to play a Nightfall Assassin anyways? o.o
I bought NF first and as I played a tried to make some nice builds and I realized that the best skills were in Prophecies. I bought Prophecies to get all the best skills.

Exactly my point! Prophecies is "the man", the others are expansions
Now, however I cannot afford Nightfall right now as I am just starting a new job, and am trying to scrounge enough money to sublet an apartment in a new city.
In fact a few certain dervish builds I won't release here because Im sure we are all woefully aware of dominate. I plan to purchase Nightfall when finances permit, but I should not have to feel pressured into buying it- World of Warcraft pressured me, and I no longer play it. That and the ridiculous cost involved..
I sympathize.
Anet did introduce a lot of unbalancing feature with nightfall, and nightfall really is necessary to pvp in ways that, say factions which has really weak skills on avreage, isnt necessary.
On th other hand. I bought nightfall from Gamespot/Eb Games for less than $20 in December (they were trying to get rid of the game, which didnt sell well... and I'm sure all the other big store had similar sales), and costco has a GW pack that sells all three games for $80. If you can afford to try WoW, its not expensive compared to that at all.
Hello, I remember a long time ago when we were told no one campaign would have any advantage over another, thats great, etc.

Why is this a problem? Take a look at random arenas, Its a rare thing to see a build composing of purely prophecies skills. Why is that? New skills= Advantage over old skills.

Im sure I'll be flamed heavily, "Get a job nerd" etc, but I just don't appreciate being mislead is all. I really love Anet, and I love guild wars as a game, I just think its possible to have new and better content without punishing some of us.
Hello,
I too remember that statement, it was something like: 'You will not need to purchase all expansions to stay competitive'
As you can see that is not the case and you do indeed require all three expansions if you want to get the most out of the game. Yes, ANet or whatever representitve has essentially lied by issuing that statement.
I understand your argument, and have also been in the same position, forced into buying Factions, and Nigthfall soley to keep up with the majority of the GW community, but in the end it all boils down to you either buy all the games and enjoy, or don't buy and get left behind unfortunately.
There is a difference between staying competitive and getting the most out of the game.
Barely staying competitive more like, sure you can produce somewhat viable builds, but it is relatively difficult for someone with only prophecies to stand against another players who posses all three campaigns.
And before you jump on me, I'm not complaining, I do realize that you get what you pay for, and that at the end of the day ANet is not a charity and needs to make money. I am merely explaining how some might feel mislead by the statement.

Yes there are, but the prices are so close to that of the regular campaigns or sometimes just as much as, you might aswell add a little bit more and get both sides of the game.

By me, each class has its best, must have chapter.
Some classes feel buffed over time, while other feel left alone (this is special case of mesmers, where new skills are almost all inferior to previous skills)
A lot of those classes are also build dependant as to which chapter would be superior to another. Most of the staple builds that come with these classes (say a Shock/Axe warrior, RC prot monk, Cripshot ranger, MoR/Diversion mesmer to name a few) are made up of mostly core/proph skills that really have been around since proph only, yet their simpleness and effectiveness have led them to be virtually untouched with newer skills from other campaigns. In the same boat some builds (Sf eles, BOA sins, BA rangers to name a few) rely on the other chapters for skills and these builds have come from the new skills offered in the newer chapters.
So while yes in some cases the superiority is a huge disadvantage by not owning all 3 campaigns, but there are many builds which can be run effectively without all 3.
I didn't say I couldn't handle them, in fact I love seeing them going down, but the fact is that before I enter an Aspenwood match, for instance, I got to make a decision: will I make room for a Dervish-measure in my build? In other words, my build is good all around, be it casters, melee, npcs, but if I wanna go against a dervish I HAVE to sacrifice a part of the build just because of them, otherwise I can't compete. To me that's overpowered. It's not like when I'm gonna decide on the build and think "will there be a MM build or a bonder build that I might wanna counter?", no, it's not a build, it's an entire profession, "will there be dervishes...", which doesn't happen regarding any other profession.
I dunno mate...you seem to be overreacting to the Dervish class. Spiteful Spirit, Insidious parasite, Empathy, Rend enchantments, Blinding effects, Interrupts...all of these measures and more are good against any other class so you do not have to do it for the Dervishes only. Which class do you play that gets so terribly pwned by Dervishes?
Unless they've made it unlikely for people with only one chapter to win when playing PVP, then they've kept their promise.
If other groups won't let you in because you don't have the specific campaign based build they are looking for, that's more of a social problem than a design problem.
Also, ANet has to do things to make the other chapters attractive. So there will be benefits to buying multiple chapters. But at the end of the day, they're just benefits, not things you have to have in order to play the game whether you are doing PVE or PVP.
Having fewer options than others makes life harder, yes, but it doesn't then follow that you can't compete with those who have more.
What Provides most pvp assets: Nightfall by far, it has brought so many broken and overused skills it's quite amazing.
What Provides the most PvE aspects: From a mission standpoint, it is Tyria. But, with places such as the Deep and Urgoz, plus alliance battles ( which are considered a type of PvE process I believe) and plenty of farming spots , Factions wins.
What is the most fun?: Tyria, no more words are necessary.
Now, its up to you to decide what's most important. I'd say the 3rd..
You haven't, you still have all the content you paid for do you not?
No. He doesn't. When he purchased his game, he was equivalent with the other players around him in terms of what content he could acquire, and use of that content. Now that other campaigns have been released, the value of what he has is significantly lessened, and therefore not equal to what he purchased.
And to the OP, all I can say is: Welcome to the machine.

The value of this game has not decreased. Ours have just increased. He still has exactly what he purchased.
Anyways, go check out GW2 interviews. As far as I'm concerned, this is a large part of the reasoning behind GW2. GW2 its supposed to be able to solve some of the problems he's addressing here.
So then what is there to complain about? They're working on it....
